Sweet Picture
There is something sweet about a baby sleeping. Here is Andrew hugging his new lovie and sucking his thumb.
We had Mommy and Me today. It was great. There was a new mom in the group and then I got to see the other mom's from last week. This time the instructor had us ask a question that had been on our minds so all the moms could give advice. I asked about giving rice cereal at 3 months in order to help with sleeping. Andrew has had some rough nights and I think it is b/c he is hungry. I have to say I felt a little judged today by my question. Maybe I am being very sensitive, but I got a gasp and a big NO. I wasn't expecting that reaction. Most of the moms exclusively breast feed and do so in the room. I am breast feeding, but am very cautious about it and do it at home only. I don't care that they breast feed during the class but I should have taken into account my audience before asking my question. Oh well!
Actually I think Andrew has a mild ear infection. I noticed Monday that his right ear had some crust around it and I have noticed some wax build up in that ear. I didn't think much of it b/c he hasn't acted sick and doesn't have a fever. Well today during the mommy and me class I had to wipe off some clear liquid draining from his ear. This got my attention and when I got to work I googled ear infections to see if the clear liquid was in any way related to an infection. What I discovered was fussiness at night and frequent night wakings is a sign of an ear infection along with the drainage. I called our nurse and she told me to bring him in so the doctor could look at his ear. He is congested lately so it would not surprise me if he has a mild ear infection. We will know more when I take him the doctor in a couple of hours.
Here goes another first for us...let's hope it is a mild one and clears up quickly.

I hope his ear infection clears quickly! Reese has had a lot of those lately and congestion too! :(
I wouldn't worry about the other moms at the class. Sometimes I felt like that when I asked people questions too, but you have to do what YOU think is best for YOUR baby. :)
I'm glad you are enjoying the class though. Reese and I did one last year, but it was a mom and tot swim class. I miss it, I think it's time to sign up again. :)
Hope Andrew is on the mend soon!
Love ya!
Hope he feels better! I am very experienced in the "mommy judgement" department... not that it makes it any easier but some times it helps to know someone has been there. It sucks! You know what is right for you and your baby...and I'll bet there was at least one other mom thinking the same thing but she was too afraid to ask.
What a sweet picture! I hate when you feel judged by other moms. People seem to have such extreme views on parenting and think you should do what they do. My mom told me to give Caroline cereal when she was pretty young (she said that's what she always did...she's raised 5 kids so I guess she should know!). I resisted for a long time. Tried it one night and had a terrible night (think it was bc she was hitting a growth spurt). But I give her cereal every night now. 1 T with 1 oz formula but am going to bump it up tonight. She loves it, so my suggestion is try it if you want to and do what you think it right for Andrew. Hope you caught the ear infection early enough so he's not in pain!
Poor Andrew! I hope his ear is better now. And, mom's do know best when it comes to their little ones. :) So sorry to hear you felt judged by some moms. That's always a horrible feeling, and I think we've all felt it before. But, again, you know what's best for Andrew. And, I totally understand the nursing in private issue! I took baby #3 for me to finally feel comfortable enough to be in a child friendly setting (like a mom/baby class!) and feel comfortable nusing, even with a nursing wrap over every inch of me!! On the rice cereal thing- one of mine was actually prescribed a special formula and it was to be mixed w/rice cereal (1-2Tbs per oz!) when he was only a couple of months old. He had severe reflux and failure to thrive issues and our specialist said the rice was fine. His bottles were like milkshakes and I had to cut the nipple holes bigger! That also gave me a green light to put a litte rice in the next two babies' bottles at night! I think you know what you need to do for him and we all know a rested, happy, less-stressed mommy is SO much better for Andrew than anything else! BTW- love the idea of picking a special day when you were growing up. So neat! We may have to copy that one and let each of our 4 kiddos pick a holiday like St. Patty's Day or something that's special for them. :)
